Over the past several years, I have been further encouraged to look for and participate with truth and beauty as part of my vocation alongside all fellow travelers trying to follow the Messiah Jesus. This song particularly began to grab my attention as I looked for new material to record this past year.
In the music and lyrics, I have see themes from Psalm 23, from the parables of Jesus and from echoes of Isaiah that show up in the gospels. And I'm coming to understand, differently than how I was raised to believe, that we are to be avid participants, and not just onlookers to the Table that God is setting for all humanity and all creation as we yearn for and live into the New Heaven and the New Earth.
And so I see this Table being set in the Kingdom that is at hand, and is yet to come-- this Kingdom of an entirely different sort of power than the way that our empires and kingdoms do power. A power revealed in a weeping Jewish prophet, who suffered horrible, unjust, ridiculous betrayal and death at the hands of haughty religious and political 'power' brokers-- but where that same Jesus somehow, inexplicably had the last word, and did something to sin and death that broke it's ultimate 'power,' as revealed through his resurrection.
While I recorded the musical instruments and vocal parts I was particularly challenged. It allowed me to marinate in this encouraging, radical and powerful message for weeks.
We hope it can encourage you in your journey this Easter.
Peace to you.
